Arts
Arts are central to the development at King's Cross.
Our vision:
'Art at King's Cross Central will incorporate contemporary works, installations, exhibitions and performances of such high quality and innovation that King's Cross becomes an international destination for the arts.'
Our objectives:
- to deliver art works, installations and performances that people come to see from across London, the UK and the rest of the world;
- to support truly innovative approaches to incorporating art in to the landscape and built environment; and
- to develop an arts programme that creates a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
In order to achieve these objectives we have set up an advisory panel to oversee the programme. Members include Andrea Rose (British Council), Jenni Lomax (Camden Arts Centre), James Lingwood (ArtAngel), Ann Gallagher (Tate), Flora Fairbairn (Flora Fairbairn Projects), Medeia Cohen/Nigel Carrington (University of the Arts London), Bob Allies (Allies and Morrison), Martha Alker (Townshend Landscape Architects), London Borough of Camden and the artist in residence.
Over the last two years we have developed a programme of commissioned projects and hosted exhibitions. These include an artist in residence programme with Arts Council England, a film project commissioned with CreateKX and a hoarding illustration drawn by artist Lucy Rodgers. We have hosted a range of organisations on our site, including ArtAngel, Sadler's Wells and Camden Arts Centre. This has demonstrated the role the arts can play and our intention is to expand this programme with the help of a curator or curatorial team, with new teams appointed on a regular basis to keep the programme fresh and interesting.
